Finding someone on a dating site based out of a big city like London is simple enough, but what can one do if they live in a more remote area?

Muddy Matches is a dating site that specializes in matching people from rural communities.

The concept may sound simple, but it would not work without a sizeable user base.

Thankfully, the service claims over 130,000 members and an impressive track record of successful matches.

I took Muddy Matches for a spin to assess it for myself.

Signing Up

To get started using Muddy Matches, you will have to provide your gender, date of birth, first and last name, and email. You may also register with Facebook.

You may also register with Facebook to save some time.

Once your account is created, you can begin filling out a profile that will help the algorithm connect you with relevant matches.

Muddy Matches Signup Process

Unlike other dating sites, you are required to answer all of the questions related to your location, background, and appearance. You are even forced to write an introduction.

I like the fact that everyone starts out on an even playing field and Muddy Matches has me wondering why more services don’t require providing more of an in-depth background.

Once completed, your profile will be up for review by a customer support agent and you won’t be able to use your account until it’s confirmed.

It’s clear from the signup process that, despite its playful name, Muddy Matches is a serious relationship site.

Ease of Use

Muddy Matches has a fairly basic design.

Everything you need to search for and follow-up with matches can be found on the navigation bar on the top of every page.

Muddy Matches Navigation Bar

When you log on to the website, you will be shown a list of your matches, which are displayed with a name, age, location, and a brief bio.

There is also a “Who’s New?” section, where you can discover the latest additions to the site.

If I had to describe the feature set of Muddy Matches in one word, I would say it’s limited.

The service uses a fairly basic search function and messaging system.

There is also a favourites section, in which you can save your most intriguing finds, and a visits section, where you can see who looked at your profile.

There is also a message blast function for premium users, which allows you to send a flirty message to ten of your matches to which they can respond for free.

Overall, there are enough features to find interesting people, but there is definitely room for more.

Staying Safe

The Muddy Matches signup process all but guarantees that most of the user base consists of real people.

Because an agent sorts through all new signups, there is much more scrutiny given to each member.

That is not to say that the intentions of all of these members are always good.

Thankfully, Muddy Matches provides some good safety advice and their customer service is quite responsive about serious matters.

They employ a ‘report it if there’s even a suspicion’ policy.

Muddy Matches Premium Pricing Plan

You can create an account on Muddy Matches for free of charge and even browse through the member list.

If you want to send a message to anyone, however, you will be required to pay.

Like most other dating sites, the longer period of time you commit to, the less you will be required to pay on a monthly basis.

The plans are broken down thusly:

  • One month – £24.00 per month
  • Three months – £15.00 per month
  • Six months – £11.50 per month
  • One year – £7.50 per month

This means that if you sign up for a one year plan, you will pay less for three months than you will for one!

You can also opt to enhance any of the plans with a premium upgrade that enables everyone you message to read and reply for free.

This, in essence, means that you are footing the bill for someone else and at an additional £8.80 per month, it’s not cheap.

Final Thoughts

Muddy Matches presents an interesting dilemma.

On the one hand, I would never recommend it for its features or price.

But on the other, it may be the only option for many people who live in the ‘muddier’ parts of the country.

As such, I only recommend it to those who failed to find success on more impressively featured and cheaper services.
